Bye Bye Baby

This weekend, I felt like I was on a TV sitcom….and it was all due to my little girl growing up.  This weekend we set Allie up with her “big girl bed.”  Needless to say, there were quite a few tears from me as we disassembled her crib…and had that dreaded “keep or donate the old crib” conversation.  (For those of you wanting to know, we decided to donate it since having a 2nd child is too dangerous for us.)

.

.

But, I am getting ahead of myself.  This whole thing started one afternoon during Allie’s nap.  I was reading a book when suddenly I hear “I Nuck” from the baby monitor.  Allie’s cries of “I Nuck” continued to get louder as I made my way to her room to discover that she was STUCK.  She had somehow managed to throw her leg over one side of her crib (while trying to climb out)….and got herself stuck in that position.

.

“I Nuck” = “I’m stuck” = it’s time for a big girl bed = Mommy crying her eyes out for 20 minutes.

.

We converted her crib to a toddler bed for the weekend….and she did so well with it that we just decided to bite the bullet and buy her a “big girl bed”…and by that I mean a FULL-sized bed.  We were going to get a twin, but I let the sales woman convince me that a full would be better.  Yup, I have “SUCKER” stamped on my forehead.

.

The bed was finally delivered on Saturday and at first, Allie thought the mattress in the living room was just something new to play on…

.

.

Then, she thought it was a new “couch” made just for her….

.

.

Yeah, she was pretty upset when the mattress got moved into her room…but, as soon as she realized that the bed was for HER…well, she still wanted the mattress in the living room.  But, she got over it.  Eventually.

.

We spent the rest of the weekend decorating the room and now she LOVES IT!

.

.

Secretly I think I went with the Full-size bed so that when she sleeps in it, she still looks like my little baby…..

Pink Flamingos and Pink Eye

.

We are officially members of the Memphis Zoo.  Allie just LOVES seeing the animals and telling us what each one says, so when we went last weekend, we bought a year’s membership….which means…MORE ZOO PICTURES!

.

.

When you enter our zoo, there is a mini river that runs through it….and for the first time ever, Allie knew how to say “WATER!”  Needless to say, every time went by ANY kind of fountain, waterfall, lake, river, or puddle, she would scream “WATER!!.

.

.

As we made it through the zoo, Daddy realized that he was taking more picture of animals (see above) than of Allie.  So, when we got to the exhibit with the wolves, he directed us to point at the wolves.  Obviously, he failed to tell us which direction to point.

.

.

We got it together a little more once we got to the waterfall, although (again) Allie didn’t want to pose, she wanted to say WATER!!!

.

.

Allie’s favorite animal at the zoo was the elephant.  Or, as Allie says “elllepaannnt”.  We spent 20 minutes sitting in front of their exhibit while Allie said “Ellepaannnt” 1,000 times.

.

.

Before we left, we swung by the ‘farming’ section of the zoo, where they have things like cows, donkeys, and chickens.  Here’s Allie telling a chicken that it says “baak baak baak”.  The chicken was unamused.

.

.

The funniest animal that we saw was the groundhogs….I swear, they were bigger hams than Allie!  Check it out…

.

.

One of my favorite shots of Allie today is the one where she tells the Giraffes that they say “MOOOO” (seriously, Giraffes really do say “moo”).

.

.

Oh, and one quick shot of Brad at the zoo….

.

.

HAHAHAHAHA!  Yeah, unoriginal, I know.  But, it’s still funny!  A few days after our trip to the zoo, we all got sick.  Allie came home from daycare with pinkeye….and promptly gave it to me.  Now, we’re just trying to keep brad from getting it.

.

.

Fortunately, she got better almost instantly….I, however, still look like a rodent.  <sigh>  The price you pay for snuggling with your kiddo.

Video: Allie learning how to throw a snowball!

We had a rare snowfall in Memphis….oh….about two weeks ago. (I know….I am behind on posting).  Here’s Allie learning how to throw a snowball!

Ice Ice Baby

.

I didn’t write a new blog post last week.  I blame the ice storm we got.   And the power outage.  And the Super Bowl.  Speaking of the Super Bowl.  My family is HUGE Who Dat fans….and they are all losing their minds right about now.  Haha!  The first half of the game was so stressful, even Nutmeg couldn’t watch.

.

.

So, we had this HUGE ice storm here last weekend.  I say HUGE because 4 inches of ice is a pretty big deal here.  Especially when we were expecting snow!  We woke up Saturday morning, looked out our window….and saw this:

.

.

Needless to say, we didn’t know it was ALL ICE….I mean, it looked like snow!  So, we bundled Allie up, threw on our coats…and RAN into the “snow”….and promptly slipped and busted our butts.  HAHA!  Luckily, Allie showed a bit more caution than we did.

.

.

She seemed much more concerned with telling us how cold it was.  Or, rather, how “TOLD” it was.

.

.

I do think she had a good time, though.  She at least SEEMED happy to be skating around on a sheet of ice that used to be our driveway.

.

.

After taking-in the ice for a good 10 minutes, we decided it would be better appreciated viewed through our living room window rather than in the ‘thick of it.’

.

.

On a side note, I’m working on some video to post this week. :)  Have a great week!  Grats Saints!
